LORI Magazine – Volume 1, Issue 3
Penelope James walked through the hallway of her school, thinking about her previous argument with her mother. Penny, as she is fondly called, is a beautiful; unmarried 24 year old lady. Her mother had been disturbing her for a little over two years now to bring home a man. Sure, Penny is done with her education and has a lucrative job, but marriage is not on her mind. All Penny wants to do is make money.
However, she is beginning to think about just saying yes to the next available man to stop her mother’s nagging. While musing, she ran into her colleague, Janet, who asked her what was wrong. She explained everything to Janet and Janet burst into laughter. Angrily, Penny asks Janet why she is laughing at her.
Janet sobered up and looked straight into her eyes, “What do you know about marriage, Penny? Do you think jumping into the arms of another man is the next best thing?”
After this round of questions, Penny became more baffled and Janet told her about an organization she belonged to which prepares single ladies for their future homes through godly guidance and principles according to the ordinance of marriage in Genesis 2:18. Penny was surprised because she had never heard of the organization called Ladies of Rubies International (LORI).
In the first stage, Penny was to go through the magazines that have been released by LORI in a bid to understand what the organization is all about. Going through the magazines, Penny felt like the writers were speaking directly to her.
The first person she met in this first volume was Mrs. Lanre Osineye, the Coordinator of LORI who took her through THE ORIGINAL PURPOSE OF MARRIAGE. She then moved on to learn how to NURTURE THE RIGHT KIND OF RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN A MAN AND A WOMAN from Barrister Oyetola Mary.
As if that was not enough, Sis Taiwo Oyekan told her that commitment and love alone do not preserve a relationship; instead, she learnt THE POWER OF PRAYER IN PRESERVING YOUR RELATIONSHIP.
Afterward, she bumped into Mrs. Lanre Osineye again who lectured her on HOW BEST TO PROTECT HER VIRGINITY AS A LADY in this corrupt age and time. She went a little further and met Sis. Abiola Florence who made her understand VITAL SIGNS TO WATCH OUT FOR IN A TOXIC RELATIONSHIP AND THE WAY OUT.
At this stage, Penny became lost in thought and wondered where she would start. She began asking herself questions like, “Can I even find a man for myself? Can I make a marriage work? How can a marriage succeed? My mom wants me to marry an Ibo man like myself but I haven’t met any godly Ibo man that I like. What if I meet a Yoruba or Hausa man and God is saying I should go on, what do I do then?”
It was as if Mrs. Victoria Elusanmi was listening to her private thoughts as she made Penny understand HOW TO PROFIT FROM THE INTEGRITY OF GOD’S WORD; that is, TAKING GOD BY HIS WORD. Mrs. Ifeoma Osineye also answered her last question by giving Penny TIPS ON HOW TO OVERCOME INTER-TRIBAL DIFFERENCES IN MARRIAGE. To conclude Penny’s journey through the eyes of LORI and her purpose, Mrs. Oyeronke Talabi sternly informed her to LOOK BEFORE SHE LEAPS.
After all this, Penny went down on her knees and prayed fervently asking God for guidance because she had learnt not to miss it in marriage. While praying, the Holy Spirit then told her she needed to also be prepared for marriage even before it comes. She inquired further about how she could do this when she was directed to Mrs. Oluwatosin Gbadamosi who told her WHY SHE NEEDED TO BE INDUSTRIOUS AS A WOMAN. To further her education, she went to Mrs. Oluwakemi Ige to learn HOW TO BE A GODLY CAREER WOMAN.
At that stage, Janet told her she was almost done with her journey. All she needed to do was learn one more lesson from Mrs. Lanre Osineye again on HOW TO STAND AGAINST THE LIES OF THE DEVIL IN YOUR MARRIAGE.
“Do you still want to jump at the next available man because of your mom?’ Janet asked her teasingly. With all seriousness, Penny shouted, “Never! I refuse to make mistakes. Also, I want to join LORI. I believe I can learn more from such wonderful women.” Janet laughed at her outburst and promised to formally introduce her to the Coordinator of LORI the next day.
